Life & Environment serves as the umbrella organization for Israel's environmental NGO's, promoting quality of life and environment in Israel. Life & Environment acts as a broad framework for furthering cooperation, expanding the interaction among groups and providing assistance to organizations in a variety of professional areas. Serving some 80 organizations nation-wide, Life and Environment works pro-actively to empower grass-root organizations,
promote awareness to environmental issues, disseminate environmental information, and to represent environmental interests at the national level, including the Knesset and
governmental committees.

Life and Environment is currently involved in several major projects, aiming mostly at promoting the interests and capacity building of the environmental community in Israel. First in this list is the Pro-bono Center, a center for professional services that will serve environmental groups by matching professionals in a wide variety of areas (such as lawyers, planners, accountants etc.) with organizations that can utilize their expertise. The first phase of the project - a survey among member organizations to check their priorities and needs was done, and enables effective matchmaking. The major effort is now on recruiting professional organizations and associations, such as the Israel Bar Association or the Architects Association to become involved in a strategic partnership with the environmental community, and volunteer their services and expertise to environmental groups, thus boosting professional capabilities among the environmental NGO community.
